Hello World, Hello ND, Hello Japanese

Hi~ My name is Ng Sio Pan and you can call me Sky. 20 years old.

I am from Macao, which is a very beautiful city next to Hong Kong.  As an international student and this is my first week at ND. I found that it is very cold. 

I like many sports, like running, badminton and ping-pong, if you have the same interested as me, please get in touch with me and we can play together. 

There sever reasons for me to choose this course. First, language learning is one of my interests, I have learned French, Portuguese, Korean and I found that the procedure of language learning is always fun. Second, I want to know more about Japanese culture. Before taking this course, the only way to learn Japanese culture is by searching on the internet. But now, this course offers a very good opportunity to understand Japanese culture, including its value, behavior, language, and tradition. 

I hope I can speak some basic Japanese fluently after finishing this course and I also want to make some friends on this course.

    Language learning is amazing! You must have some really good language studying habits. I've never been to Macao, but I did visit a friend in Taiwan.

Katagana

According to my research, hiragana and katakana are both derived from Manyokana. After the introduction of Chinese characters into Japan, all the original pronunciation of Japanese would be replaced by a single Chinese character. Then these characters are called Manyokana, which means borrowed from Chinese characters. As the ancient Chinese characters are quite complicated to write, Manyokana has been simplified over time. By the Heian period( 平安時代 ), there were basically two separate writing systems. One is the hiragana, the common kana, which evolved from the cursive style Manyokana. The other is a katakana evolved from the regular script of the Manyokana, that is, incomplete kana. (Left column: Katakana; Right column: Kanji) Now, there are several reasons for using katakana. For example, foreign words, onomatopoeia words and so on. And the overall pronunciation is almost the same as katakana.
